North Ogden: Veterans Laid to Rest - Demise of Franklin G. Clifford and William Spackman
Special Correspondent. North Ogden, Weber Co., April 10 - Tidings of the death last Sunday morning of Franklin G. Clifford of this place in his 75th year will be received by his friends with regret. he was born Nov. 3, 1827, in Hopkinsville, Christian County, Kentucky, was the son of John Clifford and Elizabeth Price; was baptized March 4, 1845; went to Nauvoo and moved with the Church west arriving at Council Bluffs July 10, 1846, where two brothers, John and Isaac, were called into the "Mormon" Battalion. Here, on May 10, 1849, he was married to Jerusha Campbell, and one year later started for Salt Lake valley, but his wife fell a victim to the cholera on the Missouri River. He reached Salt Lake City, Oct. 4, 1850. He married Rosetta Campbell at Bountiful, Oct. 10, 1850, and came to this place among the first settlers, and shared in the trials of early pioneer days, serving against the Indians and taking part in the "Move" in 1857. He was for many years an active worker in the Sunday school, and other organizations of the ward, and was loved and respected by all. Impressive funeral services were held in the North Ogden meeting house yesterday.
