About Franziska Rosenbaum

Entry in Die Judischen Burger im Kreis Gottingen 1933-1945 Memorial Book
English below.

Franziska Rosenbaum geb. Hesse wurde am 13. November 1879 in Wanfried geboren.

English

Franziska Rosenbaum née Hesse was born on November 13, 1879 in Wanfried. She was married to the Duderstadt merchant Max Rosenbaum and had four children, Hans, Margarethe, Ernst and Paul. Since 1901 she lived in Duderstadt, Marktstrasse 37, where her husband's clothing and fashion store was also located. After the death of her husband in January 1935, she continued the business with her son Ernst. ver

While the family survived the first few years after the seizure of power relatively undisturbed, the business was boycotted in October 1936. In addition, the company was charged with unfair competition, which, however, could not be substantiated. The actions of the "Reichs Kristallnacht" then put an end to the business for good.

Franziska Rosenbaum sold her house on Marktstrasse and moved to Hamburg with her daughter Margarethe in March 1939. On October 25, 1941, both were deported from Hamburg to the Litzmannstadt / Lodz ghetto. They are considered lost there.

Son Hans, who had already left Duderstadt in 1926, had emigrated to South Africa, son Ernst to England and later to the USA. Son Paul died in Duderstadt in 1932.
