Fred Picton-Turbervill (1962 - 2008)

Brief overview:

Fred (46), a Welsh businessman from Ewenny, near Bridgend, working and living in South Africa, was shot in front of his wife and four children at his home in Aries Street, Waterkloof Ridge, Pretoria, on 4th January 2008. He was pronounced dead an hour later in hospital.

  • Fred was watching television with his wife, Ursula (43), and their children Samantha (10), Bryony (9), Natasha (6), and Gregory (3), when two armed males broke into their home. They were all ordered to lie on the floor while the house was ransacked. One of the gunmen then shot Fred in the eye, even though he posed no threat and didn't resist.
