He left a lot of land to his sons to take over when they became of age and doled his slaves out among the family..
The family lived at St Helena during the captivity of Napoleon ( 1815 -1821)and a Captain Alexander was involved with his exhumation and transfer to France. He was presented with a medal to commorate the event. Tradition has it that it was Frederick Augustus ,the 2nd son..
On 22 Nov !831 George's eldest brother,William Watkin was on his way to Australia after his bride had dropped dead suddenly on her way to the wedding, and decided to settle in the Cape.He settled at Grootboschfontein near Swellendam My ancestor ,Paul Roux ,was the school master.who taught the Huguenot's children
The Family can't be traced back before St Helena. Susanna, in a fit of house keeping ,burned William's papers and pictures (to his horror) It is believed the Alexanders are connected through some branch of the Alexander family, who were farmers and landowners in and around the village of Menstrie four miles from Srirling

Frederick Augustus Alexander, was a descendant of Richard Alexander (1652- 1683) the first Alexander to settle on St Helena. He was a planter who owned several estates on the island and he was buried there on 16/03/1820. He married Eliza Greentree of St Helena in 1802 and they had 5 sons. Excepting names and dates nothing more is known about the three younger sons. The eldest son, William Watkin, came to South Africa in 1831, and his descendants are recorded by Agnes Rissik in her book "Letters to my grandchildren". This sheet lists the known descendents of the second son, also named Frederick Augustus. He married Louisa Broadway, daughter of Capt Harry Broadway, of the East India Service and is reputed to have taken part in the exhumation of Napolean's body in 1840. He came to South Africa in 1853 with his family and took an active part in the development of the Witwatersrand.
