About Frederick Charles von Heidenstam, C.M.G.
Born in Athens to a Danish father and English mother, daughter of an English bishop. Studied medicine in Paris. Went to Cyprus in 1879 to work in Larnaca as Deputy Director General, Sanitation and Quarantine Authority and worked as a doctor in Larnaca Hospital until 1882. He was the first Mayor of Larnaca (1878-1880). Chief Medical Officer of Cyprus (1882 until his death), member Legislative Council of Cyprus (1883-1885). Multilingual. Married Anastasia Sountia from Lefkada, daughter of Demetris Sountia and Aspasia Valaoritis, the sister of the great Greek poet, Aristotelis Valaoritis.
