About Frederick Jones
I have had a stumbling block with my Jones ancestry for many years. The one avenue I have not explored is that Frederick committed a felony!
I know that George Jones - my great grandfather - was baptised on 23 Nov 1834 at St. Mark Kennington, Surrey - his parents Frederick Jones and Susan - address Church Street.
Frederick's occupation was given as "mechanic". Later, on son George's marriage certificates, this differs -
- in 1857 he was described as an accountant and not marked as deceased;
- in 1875 he is said to be deceased - a hops merchant.
The only record I have found for 1841 is a Susan Jones aged 29, Independent, living in Camden Street, St. Mary Newington, Lambeth - HO 107/1064/10 with a 6 year old George and a 26 year old Mary.
There is also a burial at St. Mary, Lambeth on 24 June 1835 for a 30 year old Frederic Jones of Layland Street who would tie in with Susan in the 1841 returns. If these are the right people then Susan could have married before 1851 making finding her difficult because the name is not unusual.
But the references on George's marriage certificates suggest that his father died some time between 1857 and 1875.
No census returns have been found for Frederick and Susan apart from the 1841 entry above.
