About Frederick Manuel

Frederick was born 29th June, 1838 at Almer, Dorsetshire, England and is the son of Josiah Manuel and Sarah Knight. He died on the 19th May 1925 at Glen Innes at the age of 86. He was buried at Glen Innes on the 22nd May, 1925.

Frederick married Harriet Alderton at Paddington, Middlesex, England on the 10th March, 1860. Together they had 10 children, they are as follows:

1. Frederick 1864 -1885

2. Harriet aka Hettie 1865 - 1945

3. Harry 1868 - 1946

4. William 1869 - 1875

5. Ada Nina 1872 - 1909

6. Charles 1874 - ?

7. Elizabeth 1876 - ?

8. Florence 1879 - 1928

9. Alice 1882 - 1952

10. William 1894 - 1915

Adopted son James Edwin details unknown

Frederick &Harriet , with five of their eight children, arived in NSW about 1883 from London. They spent six years on Mr Fletcher's property, "Orundumbi" and aother six years at "St. Leonards', ( where Frederick had a selection ?) in the Walcha district.

They were at Armidale for five years where he share-farmed. He then bought a block of The Haymarket Estate at Furracabad, near Glen Innes.

Frederick & Harriet looked after Hettie's, (Harriet Manuel, husband Harold Brooks), children, Charles & Alice Brooks, for several years and also adopted a son, James Edwin.

At teh age of 86, Frederick was killed in a sulky accident on the Furracabad Road.
