Frederik graaf de Thoms

De Thoms pretendeerde ten onrechte uit een Franse adelijke familie te stammen; in 1725, toen hij agent voor Braunschweig in Londen was, ontving hij een Duits adelsdiploma en sindsdien noemde hij zich De Thoms; in 1737, toen hij zich al baron noemde, verhief koning Karel VII van Napels hem tot graaf. In 1741 huwde hij de Leidse Johanna Maria Boerhaave, de dochter van de beroemde medicus Hermannus www.rkd.nl
