About Frederik Arnold Lindemann
GEDCOM Note
Notes written by Stephan Rudolph Blickwedel: (Marlene Daniel/Brennan has copy of original from Erwin Tummler) Yesterday, the 5th October 1926, among some old papers I found a notebook of my late father dated 22nd of December 1844, and in it a note concerning my great-grandfather, Pastor Lindemann from Bentheim. And since it seems likely to me that after my death probably all old papers will be burnt and my children they will not know where they come from, and will not know who their ancestors were, I wish to make an attempt to put together a chronicle of our family. Since the already-mentioned note is available to me, I will begin with my mother's father's family. My great-great-grandfather was the Calvinist preacher Johannes Lindemann and Anna Katharina Hugenholz in Schüttorf in Hannover, whose son the later Calvinist preacher Friedrich Arnold Lindemann in Bentheim (my grandfather).* Friedrich Arnold Lindemann was born in Bentheim and became a Calvinist preacher. He studied at the University in Leiden and was initially Rector of the Latin School in Schüttorf and on 29 November 1778 initially Assistant to Preacher Schultz in Bentheim and after the latter's death on the 8 March 1779 Preacher there. On the 15th December 1791 he married Jacobina Dorothea Drees, daughter of the apothecary and town-mayor, Bernhard Samuel Drees and his wife Adelheida Theodora Hondela from Bentheim. When his wife died after 7 years he entered into a second marriage on July 22, 1800, with Sophia Elisabeth Meindermann, daughter of government-chancellory-clerk (Regierungskanzlisten) Johann Heinrich Meindermann and his wife Catharina Hedwig Klein, who died in 1810. Over a period of 47 years and 5 months he promulgated the word of God and died at the age of 70 years 5 months and 18 days, on August 18 1826. From his first marriage emanated 1 son and two daughters, of whom the eldest daughter died on March 28 1884 (?). From his second marriage came 2 daughters. The names of the children are: a. Friedrich Lindemann born May 22, 1795. He was a military officer and died at a very advanced age as a Captain [Hauptmann a.D.] in Bentheim. (I visited him once from osnabruck with my parents when I was in the eighth grade.) He was married twice, and his second marriage, as I remember from my visit on that occasion, was with a wealthy Dutch woman. From his first marriage emanated, if I recall correctly, only 3 sons, Fritz, Bernhard and Leonhardt Lindemann. The eldest, Fritz Lindemann was married to his cousin Henriette. [That was the end of the notes - they weren't finished] *Note from translator: The writer does say "grandfather" but I think it's prpbably a mistake asnd he meant to write "great-grandfather" since he is writing of the son of his great-great-grandfather). It is noted he also refers to this person just above as his great-grandfather.
