Gabriel Attal, Premier Ministre de France

Gabriel Attal, born March 16, 1989 in Clamart (Hauts-de-Seine), is a French politician.

An activist in the Socialist Party from 2006 to 2016, he was a member of the cabinet of Minister of Health Marisol Touraine from 2012 to 2017, as well as a municipal councilor of Vanves since 2014.

In 2016, he joined the party founded by Emmanuel Macron, En Marche - which became La République en Marche then Renaissance -, of which he was spokesperson in 2018 and member of the executive office from 2021.

He was elected deputy during the 2017 legislative elections in the tenth constituency of Hauts-de-Seine. In the National Assembly, he is a member of the Committee on Cultural Affairs and Education. He is also rapporteur for the bill relating to student guidance and success (ORE).

In 2018, he was appointed Secretary of State to the Minister of National Education and Youth in the second Édouard Philippe government, becoming at 29 the youngest member of a government under the Fifth Republic. It is notably responsible for setting up the universal national service (SNU). He is then spokesperson for the Jean Castex government, between 2020 and 2022.

Within the Élisabeth Borne government, formed in 2022 under the second presidency of Emmanuel Macron, he was first Minister Delegate in charge of Public Accounts. Re-elected deputy immediately during the 2022 legislative elections, he does not occupy this position in order to remain in government. In July 2023, he was appointed Minister of National Education and Youth. He was appointed Prime Minister on January 9, 2024.

Militant au Parti socialiste de 2006 à 2016, il est membre du cabinet de la ministre de la Santé Marisol Touraine de 2012 à 2017, ainsi que conseiller municipal de Vanves depuis 2014.

En 2016, il rejoint le parti fondé par Emmanuel Macron, En marche — devenu La République en marche puis Renaissance —, dont il est porte-parole en 2018 et membre du bureau exécutif à partir de 2021.

Il est élu député lors des élections législatives de 2017 dans la dixième circonscription des Hauts-de-Seine. À l'Assemblée nationale, il est membre de la commission des Affaires culturelles et de l'Éducation. Il est également rapporteur du projet de loi relative à l'orientation et à la réussite des étudiants (ORE).

En 2018, il est nommé secrétaire d'État auprès du ministre de l'Éducation nationale et de la Jeunesse dans le second gouvernement Édouard Philippe, devenant à 29 ans le plus jeune membre d'un gouvernement sous la Ve République. Il est notamment chargé de mettre en place le service national universel (SNU). Il est ensuite porte-parole du gouvernement Jean Castex, entre 2020 et 2022.

Au sein du gouvernement Élisabeth Borne, formé en 2022 sous la seconde présidence d'Emmanuel Macron, il est d'abord ministre délégué chargé des Comptes publics. Réélu député dans la foulée lors des élections législatives de 2022, il n'occupe pas cette fonction afin de rester au gouvernement. En juillet 2023, il est nommé ministre de l'Éducation nationale et de la Jeunesse. Il est nommé Premier ministre le 9 janvier 2024.
