----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Gabriel, the eldest son, carried on the Stolts name. Born in 1739 at an early age he moved from the Western Cape to the Oudtshoorn district where he had two loan farms, with ‘Klipfontein gelegen aan de Baviaanskloof aan de Kanko by de Olifantsrivier’ as his dwelling place. Here he died in 1795 (29). A further loan place ‘Krommerivier aan de Goudsrivier’ (probably the Gourits) also appears in his name. The two estate accounts which were finalised only in 1811(30) shows that he made a success of his life with his widow receiving 1700 rix dollars and each child 200. He was twice married, his first wife, Maria Cornelia Minne bearing his 9 children. He married secondly Isabella Elisabeth de Jager who survived him. Of his six sons, Gabriel, Willem, and Coenraad Petrus continued the drift eastward while the movements of Theodorus Frederick and the twins, Frederick and Daniel have not been established. The above, Gabriel, born in 1772, married Magdalena Bezuidenhout at the age of 20 and was to play a part, first as ‘veldcornet’ and later as Commandant, even further east, in the stirring times of the Xhosa chiefs Nlambe, Gaika and Hintsa as appears in the reports of the commandos of July 1809 (31). NO estate documentation has been located. After his death, his widow married Dirk van der Schyff. Willem III travelled in a northerly direction and established himself as a blacksmith. He died in his 89th year at ‘Kareebos, district Beaufort’ in 1858 (32). Coenraad Petrus and his wife, Hester Susanna Elisabeth Botha, lived on Wilgerivier, district Uitenhage where he died in 1832 (33). Most of the above sons had numerous male offspring to ensure that the name of their progenitor, Willem Stolts van die Kaap does not die out”
