William C. Schenck was the founder of Franklin, Warren County, Ohio and an important figure in what was called the Jersey Settlement - a new settlement in the Miami Valley comprised in large part by Dutch Reform families from Monmouth County, particularly from Freehold and Middletown.
He was a land speculator and an important early settler of Ohio who had also been in the War of 1812. Like his son, Maj. General Robert C. Schenck (USA), he rose to the rank of general.
