Genoa married Carrie Griffith (Odell). Together they had the following children: Dennis Griffith.

He died on May 21, 2003 in Salisbury, Rowan County, North Carolina, United States and was buried in Oakdale Cemetery (Plot Section 22 Lot 51 Plot 1 Row D), Mount Airy, Surry County, North Carolina, United States.
