Goeffrey Langley was a prosperous merchant and alderman in Colchester. He seems to have left a substantial estate and is found with armorial bearings in the Visitations of Essex (http://books.google.com/books?id=hqwKAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA433). Otherwise, he seems to have been the product of spontaneous generation.
