Is George the son of William Blake and Agnes Thorne?
According to reliable sources ("Increase Blake of Boston , His ancestors and decendants" by Francis E. Blake, and three other equally reliable books) William and Agnes had five children: John and Anne (twins), William, James and Edward, all born in Pitminster,England. George was born in 1617. This was one year before the birth of Williams eldest children, John (Thorne?) and Anne. Could George have been another Williams son? Is he at all related to William and Agnes?
If anyone has reliable information about this, I would be very pleased to hear from you.

George Blake migrated to New England during the Puritan Great Migration (1620-1640).
Disputed parents and origins
A previous version of this profile had attached parents William Blake and Agnes Thorn and a baptism date of 1 March 1617 at Pitminster, Somerset, England. There is no record of a son George in William's New England family and George's estimated year of birth is 1611, based on a deposition in Essex Quarterly Court. The most recent treatment of George Blake and family states that his origins are unknown. [1]
Biography
Birth and Parents
George Blake was deposed on 25 Sep 1666 stating that he was "aged about fifty-five years,[2] putting his birth year about 1611. He was most likely born in England. His parents and exact birth location are currently unknown.
Marriage and children
George married Dorothy (Unknown) Blake (1615-1702) by 1641, probably in Gloucester, Massachusetts[3] and together they had the following children (all recorded in Gloucester, Massachusetts Bay Colony)[4]:
Rebecca Blake b. February 1641 d. 8 May 1721 Boxford m. Robert Ames
Deborah Blake b. 10 November 1644 d. before Jan 1697/8 m. John Pemberton
Prudence Blake b. 15 April 1647 d. 9 March 1688 Andover m. Moses Tyler
Elizabeth Blake b. 31 May 1650 d. Boxford, Essex, MA m. Matthew Perry
Mary Blake b. 14 February 1652 bp. 25 March 1655 d. 23 August 1745, Topsfield m. Zacheus Curtis[5]
Thomas Blake b 9 June 1658 d. 25 June 1658 Gloucester[6]
Ruth Blake b 3 September 1659 d aft Jan 1697/8 possibly married Joseph Shaw.
Life In New England
It is unknown exactly when George arrived in America, however, he was most likely in Gloucester, Massachusetts, by February 1641/42, as that is when and where the birth of his first known child, Rebecca, was recorded.[7]
George was on the list of those who were inhabitants of the town of Gloucester by the end of 1650.[8]
He was selectman in Gloucester in 1649 and freeman of that place in 1651. In 1665 he sold house and land and again in 1669. Sometime after that he left Gloucester, moving to Boxford.[9] (The same source lists him as selectman in 1650 but not on the list for 1649.[10])
In 1665 he sold a house and land "near the Meeting-house" to Thomas Judkins.[11]
In 1667 he sold a house and land in Gloucester to John Fitch.[12]
In 1669 George signed a land deed and his wife used her mark, which appears to look like a "T".[13]
Perley claims that George was "at first well-off; but became so poor that the town voted, in 1691, not to tax him."[14] The following seems to be his sources, as on 3 Oct 3 1687 "George Blake a very aged man [was taxed on]: 3 cows, 1 young cattle, 5 sheep, 3 swine 1s.3d."[15] However, just a few years later, 1 Mar 1690/1, "Gorg Black...shall not bee Reated [taxed] by any select man teal the Town give order (that is to Say): not in our towne."[16]
Boxwood Residence Location
"Old Porter Cellar- In West Boxford near the North Andover town line, on the south side of the high way leading from the residence of the late Capt. Enoch Wood to North Andover is an old cellar. Near this cellar stood the old house in which George Blake lived. He came from Gloucester in or about 1675 having been born in 1611 and made a freeman in 1651. He died in 1698 at the age of eighty-seven. His wife Dorothy survived him till 1702, when she died. They had six daughters and one son, the latter surviving but sixteen days… In 1709 an old record reads, ‘On the south side of said road near where George Blake’s old house stood.’ So his residence survived him but a few years." [17]
Death & Burial
George died 17 Feb 1697/8 at Boxford, MA. His death was recorded on the inventory for the estate at the death of his widow.[18]
Last Will and Testament
A copy of George's original will can be found online at American Ancestors.[19]

George Blake's will was written 1 January 1697/8. In the will he mentions daughters Rebeckah Eams, Mary Curtis, Ruth Shaw, granddaughter Deborah Kimball, a grandchild whose name is unreadable, grandson John Eams, and his "dear and loving wife" Dorothy Blake.
The Gloucester, Essex county vital records note births for the following children of George and Dorothy: Rebecca, Deborah, Prudence, Elizabeth, Mary, Thomas, and Ruth. There is a death record for Thomas as an infant.

It seems to me that there is evidence lacking on who this George Blake really is. It is certainly NOT the George, son of Humphrey William Blake, who died in Plymouth, England. Maybe he is the son of William II Blake, but George did NOT come across the Atlantic then with his brothers and sisters. It is almost incredible how many people repeat "born in MA in 1611"; this is manifestly absurd. One can say that George was a substantial person as Selectman from Gloucester in 1644, and there are hints that his d. Rebecca (the witch) was viewed as a person of some substance.
I came upon this on rootsweb, including some information about his will.
He had been fairly well-to-do but by 1675 he was in Boxford and was deemed poor by the town and it was voted not to tax him. He died Feb 17, 1697/98, in Gloucester.
Their children are
Rebecca b., Feb. 1640 Gloucester, Essex County, Massachutts Died 8 May 1721 Boxford, Essex County, Massachutts Married Robert Ames in Andover, Essex County, Massachutts

George Blake made freeman in 1651. At first well-off; but became so poor that the town voted, in 1691, not to tax him. Selectman 1649 had several grants of land including one near the meeting house where he resided. Sold house, upland, orchard, and commonage to John Fitch in 1665, and another house and land in 1669 to Thomas Judkin. Removed to Boxford soon after.
"George Blake a very aged man" listed in Boxford Town tax list of Oct 3, 1687; only property listed was three cows and one "young cattle," five sheep, three swine, 0£ 1 s 3 d. George Blake also listed as of Gloucester ae. 55 in 1666.
