It has been suggested that George Campbell of Cessnock, here treated, may be the son of Sir George Campbell of Loudon This is wrong. He is in fact the son and apparent heir of George Campbell of Cessnock, elder RSSRS 1488-1529: entry number 931

Death

George Campbell of Cessnock was killed in action at the Battle of Flodden, fighting under the standard of James IV, King of Scots: "dictus Georgius mortuus est in campo de Northumbirland sub vexillo domini regis". RSRS 1513-1522: p. 38

30 October 1509: Charter by which William Schaw of Polkemmet confirms that he has sold the two merk land of old extent of Dalloy in the Bailliery of Kyle and sheriffdom of Ayr, to George Campbell of Cessnock. On 6 February 1522 possession of this land was confirmed to John Campbell, son and heir of the deceased George Campbell of Cessnock by a charter issued under the Great Seal of Scotland.
