About George Washington Clark

Update 4/06/2020: I located on Family Search, from North Carolina State Archives, Raleigh, NC , the 1801 Probate Randolph County, NC file for my 5th GGF Joseph Clark. One page from 1801 shows as administrators David Smith (brother of 5th GGM, Nancy Ann Smith?), Samuel Clark (brother of Joseph Clark?), and Benjamin Mendenhall (Nancy Ann Smith Clark’s second husband). No Merrill’s are stated in any of the 18 pages of the file. Three pages, two signed by Benjamin Mendenhall show payments to the children of my 5th GGF/GGM children: son my 4th GGF George Clark; daughters 6th GG Aunts Mary (Poly) Clark Hill, Jane Clark Brown, and Nancy Clark. One page list payments to daughter Hannah Clark. Payments to children are from 1805 to 1809. I have uploaded the 18 pages to Joseph Clark’s / Nancy Smith Clark’s profiles and relevant pages to the children in Ancestry.com (DNA). Relevant pages are uploaded in Joseph Clark's profile in Geni. Both George Washington Clark and Mary (Polly) Clark; her husband John Hill are buried in Ockitree Cemetery, Busseron Township, Knox County, Indiana.

George Washington Clark moved his family from Randolph County, North Carolina in about 1819 to Knox, County Indaina. He is on the 1820 Census for Knox County, Indiana. In about 1820 his sister Mary "Polly" Clark (Hill) with husband John Hill joined George and Ruth Clark in Bussesron Township, Knox County. The Clarks and Hill's purchased adjoining land lots to farm. George was a Road Supervisor.

January 2023 my 3rd GGF John C. Clark 1808-1863 and my 2nd GGF George W. Clark 1834-1873 were approved as pioneers by The Society of Indiana Pioneers. John was a farmer and moved to Knox County Indiana when his father my below 4th GGF moved his family from Randolph County, North Carolina to in Indiana by 1820. George was born in Knox County, Indiana and became a farmer and served in in the Union Army as a private in the 120th Regiment Infantry, Company F during the Civil War.
In October 2022 My 4th GGF George Washington Clark 1786-1845 was accepted as a pioneer by The Society of Indiana Pioneers.

In 1961 a descent of my 4th Great Aunt Mary Clark “Hill” and her husband John Hill had John Hill approved as a pioneer. Mary is the sister of my 4th GGF George Washington Clark. John Hill and George Washington Clark purchased adjoinig land lots of 200 acres each in 1824. John Hill served in the War of 1812. George was a Road Supervisor in Knox County.

A person needs to have lived or been born in Indiana before 1860 with supporting documents to be approved by The Society of Indana Pioneers.
