About George Cook
George Cook(e) is first found in the Monroe Co TN 1850 census at age 15. George Cooke married Julia Forshee in Monroe Co 6 Apr 1856 as recorded by John F Gilbreath, M G in the County Records Vol 1 1820-1870 as researched, compiled, and edited by Reba Bayless Boyer. In the 1860 Monroe Co census there is a Franklin Heart age 21 in the household with William Cook age 1. George Cooke is noted as being a blacksmith in the upper Bat Creek area and that a peddler from Germany named Franklin Hart was also in the area at that time. In the census his occupation is farmer.
George W Cook enlisted in Forrest's 3 Cal May 4, 1861. This company was also successively designated as Captain Edmondson's Company B, 154th Regiment Tennessee Volunteers; Captain Allin's company of Sharp Shooters, General Preston Smith's brigade; Company F 11th Regiment Tennessee Cavalry; Company A. McDonald's Batallion Tennessee Cavalry; CompanyA, Forrest's Regiment Tennessee Cavalry, and (2nd) Company A, 3rd (Forrest's) Regiment Tennessee Cavalry. He enlisted at Randolph for one year. Family history has George killed in the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863. This is not confirmed.
