George F. Dinkel, age 94, died Thursday, December 3, 2020, at his home south of Victoria, Kansas. He was born February 17, 1926, on the family farm south of Victoria, Kansas to Frank M. and Rosa (Hertel) Dinkel.

He married Mary Ann (Hertel) on May 11, 1964 in Victoria, Kansas.

He was a farmer, a member of The Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, Treasurer for the Victoria Township Board, Victoria V.F.W. Post No. 1751, and a Past Commander. George served on the St. Fidelis Parish Council, was active in the Victoria Boys Scouts, and received Ellis County Conservation Awards.

He grew up south of Victoria, attended school in Victoria, was an expert welder, and was very devoted to his woodworking. Many of his projects were children's furniture, cars, trucks, and other toys constructed out of oak. Every year he donated several woodworking projects for the parish auction. George was a veteran of the U.S. Army, served from 1950 to 1952 and was stationed in Japan.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Dinkel, of the home; one son, Mark Dinkel and wife, Cindy, Hays, KS; one daughter, Cheryl Downes and husband, Charles, Council Grove, KS; one brother, Father Harvey Dinkel O.F.M. Cap., Victoria, KS; two sisters, Mary Younker, Antonino, KS; Viola Richmeier, Grinnell, KS; six grandchildren, Megan Schroeder (Josh), Michael Dinkel, Ashleigh Dooley (Steven), Rhiannon Downes and fiancé, Bryan Chestnut, Makenzie Downes, Lakoddah Downes; five great grandchildren, Angelina, Riley, Elaina, Scarlet Schroeder; and Paysleigh Dooley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Hilarius, Clarence, Edward Dinkel; six (sic-eight listed) sisters, Julitta Dechant, Bertha Prewo, Regina Dechant, Sr. Francis Rose Dinkel CSA, Irene Scruggs, Melinda Griebel, Sr. Paul Ann Dinkel CSA, Rita Mae Rohr; two infant siblings, Fidelis Dinkel and Viola Mary Dinkel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria, Kansas. Burial will be in St. Fidelis Cemetery with military honors by the Victoria V.F.W. Post No. 1751. A vigil service with a Knights of Columbus / V.F.W. rosary will be at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, at Cline's-Keithley Mortuary, 412 Main Street, Victoria, Kansas 67671. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, and from 9:00 to 9:45 A.M. Wednesday, all at Cline's-Keithley Mortuary Victoria, Kansas.

The family suggests memorials to The Basilica of St. Fidelis or the Victoria V.F.W.
