"George John Craig Duncan, born 1st Aug. 1806, elder son of Henry D., D.D., min. of Ruthwell ; educated at Univ. of Glasgow ; licen. by Presb. of Annan 1st June 1827 ; pres. by William IV., and ord. (assistant and successor) 28th June 1832. Joined the Free Church ; min. of the Free Church, Kirkpatrick-Durham, 1843 ; of the Presbyterian Church, North Shields, 23rd May 1844; of St Mark's Presbyterian Church, Greenwich, 1851 ; Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of England in 1856; honorary lecturer on Pastoral Theology and Homiletics in the Presbyterian Theological College, London, 1861-8; D.D. (St Andrews 1863); clerk of the English Presbyterian Synod, 1851-68 ; general secretary of the Presbyterian Church of England, 1861-8 ; died at Dumfries, 31st Dec. 1868. He marr. 25th June 1833, Belle Wight [authoress of Pre- Adamite Man, 1860] (died 26th Dec. 1878), daugh. of Samuel Clark, writer, Dumfries, and Elizabeth Nicolson, and had issue —
