George Elphinstone here treated is the son of John Elphinstone and his wife Beatrice Wardlaw. He succeeded his father on 22 March 1521. Rental Book: 82-3 He died before 7 March 1556. Ibidem: 162 In a charter dated 11 November 1589 he is identified as the deceased George Elphinstone, burgess of Glasgow. RMS: 1951

George Elphinstoune, his father, sold ro Andrew Hammyltoun of Coichtnok, a tenement, fore and back, with yard and pertinents, lying t.c., in the street which leads from the Quadrivium to the Market Cross, between the lands or tenement of John Crawfurde of Rowchtsallo on the south and south-west, an upper fortified tenement, commonly called the batellit hows, and the tenement of Mr. John Sprewle, vicar of Glasgow, on the north, and the street on the west, and for the purpose of the said George raising a large sum of money for rentalling him in the messuage of the Gorbaldis and Brigende.
