George Edward Farenthold, 84, a long time resident of Corpus Christi, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2000 at Holmgreen Health Care Center. Mr. Farenthold was well known in business and social circles in Corpus Christi.

He was born on December 6, 1915 in Brussels, Belgium, was educated at Le Rosey preparatory school in Switzerland and moved to the United States in 1936. He served in the United States Army Air Force in World War II in Europe, Italy and North Africa, also served as an aide to General George Beverly and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was discharged in 1945 with the rank of Captain.

For many years, Mr. Farenthold was active in the oil and gas business in Corpus Christi, Houston and the Middle East. He worked in Houston for twenty years in the energy supply business before returning to Corpus Christi in 1989.

He is preceded in death by his three sons, George Randolph, Vincent Bluntzer and James Dougherty.

He is survived by his former wife, Frances Farenthold; three children; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, April 4, 2000 at Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Home. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, April 5, 2000 at the Corpus Christi Cathedral. Burial will be private at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
