TROVE: Wagga Wagga Express (NSW: 1879-1917) Sat 29 Nov 1879, Page 4, Gundagai.
On Wednesday morning, a team of seven horses attached to a heavy waggon, belonging to Mr. George Field, caused quite a commotion in the main thoroughfare. In crossing over the bridge from South to North Gundagai by some means the horses took flight and bolted, galloping over the bridge and down the main street, the rumbling of the waggon appearing like thunder, and shaking the ground like a miniature earthquake. Opposite to Mr. Deighton's hotel, the runaways were fortunately secured before any serious damage was done.
Trove: The Gundagai Times and Tumut, Adelong and Murrumbidgee District Advertiser (NSW: 1868-1931) / Tue 29 Jan 1889 / Page 2 / ELECTION GOSSIP.
"We understand that about 200 tons of materials will have to be carted to the site of the new bridge being constructed at the Punt Crossing, the whole of the timber required (ironbark) having to be got from Sydney. A portion of the loading, conveyed by Mr. George Field, passed through on Wednesday last, consisting chiefly of material required for the temporary staging used in driving the piles. We believe that the successful tenderers for the carting from Gundagai will be made known on Saturday next; but in the meantime it is rumoured that certain bullock-teamsters will get the job. Tumut Times."
The Sydney Stock and Station Journal (NSW: 1896-1924) Fri 27 Sep 1901, Page 3, Boiled Down
"Mr. George Field, an old resident of
Gundagai, died at St. Vincent's Hospi-
tal, Sydney, on Sunday last."
