A direct-line male descendant provided Y-DNA results, which showed that he belonged to haplogroup J-M319.
He was certainly not related in the male line to Leonard Helm (?-1745, ), whose haplotype has been identified as R-M269.
He is probably related, although not in the direct line, to Daniel Helms of Baltimore County, MD. Daniel Helms, Sr. : J-M319.

Some sources give his birthplace as Airlenbach, Odenwald Forest, Germany. There is some circumstantial evidence in favor of this, as several other members of the Helm family, including at least one also belonging to a J2 haplogroup, originated from there.
Even if he was not a native of Germany, he must have been of very recent German immigrant heritage, as he appears to have been functionally bilingual in English and German.
George Helm was born in 1723 in Airlenbach, Odenwald Forest, Prussia.
He died before April in 1769 at the age of 46.
George first land purchase was in Frederick Co., Virginia in about 1754.
He was married to Dorothea.
George was the father of of 3 children:
Most info provided by Art B., a Helm family reseacher. Also PAR, for my husband, Don Rhodes and his Helm family.
Thank you Audrey for placing the pictures of George's stone on his memorial page.
