George Henry was commissioned Ensign in the Cocke Co. Militia on 5 April, 1798.
"In 1783 George Henry was involved in a battle with the Cherokee Indians at the Cherokee Town of Cowee in historic Haywood County, North Carolina which is now the present day Cowee Mound located by the Little Tennessee River in the present day Township of Cowee in Macon County, North Carolina. This battle was led by Major Peter Fine. During the aftermath of this battle the son of Major Peter Fine, Lieutenant Vinet Fine, was killed. George Lafayette Henry and his wife Cynthia Anne "Annie" Fine Henry named one of their children after Vinet Fine." (1)
