About George (Joris) Holmes (Homs)
George Holmes (aka Joris Homs) and Thomas Hall were the first English from Virginia to be granted land on Manhattan. They lived and worked on land that was called 'Deutelbaai' (Dutch) - a name that bastardized to Turtle Bay.
Here is what Wikipedia has on Turtle Bay
He had (at least) one of his children baptized in the Dutch Reformed Church in New Amsterdam: 1640 May 27; Jorgien Thomes; Presilie; Thomas Hall, Anneken Wesens
" Jorgien " = George (!) His business partner Thomas was a God-parent.
"Joris/George Homs/Holmes baptized 6 children in the New Amsterdam Reformed Dutch Church between 1640 and 1652 (no wife's name is given in the records, and no marriage record survives), the eldest being Priscilla (27 May 1640, Thomas Hall was a sponsor at her baptism - see page 10 of the published records).
George Holmes died before 8 Aug 1662 [see RNA 4:107/8] when Jan Lauwerens and Joris Wolsey, as guardians of his minor children, appeared in the Courts to settle a claim involving a cow. Priscilla Holmes had married Jonas Willemszen (a soldier from Amsterdam) [Banns] 5 Feb 1661, as recorded in the New Amsterdam Reformed Dutch Church [page 26]. Sons Willem, Joris and Jan Holmes also married and had children baptized in the New York Reformed Dutch Church." ~• from: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/Dutch-Colonies/2006-1...
