Biographical Summary

"George Murray, born 3rd Aug. 1773, eldest son of Matthew M., and nephew of preceding ; educated at Univ. of St Andrews; M.A. (1791); Keen, by Presb. of St Andrews 22nd April 1795 ; pres. by Sir Hew Dalrymple Hamilton of North Berwick and Bargany, Bart., and ord. 24th Sept. 1795; died 17th Aug. 1822. He marr. 19th March 1799, Elizabeth (died 1st Feb. 1842), daugh. of James Renton, merchant, Berwick - on - Tweed, and had issue — Margaret, born 8th April 1801 ; Ann, born 11th Oct. 1802; James, born 28th April 1806; Matthew, D.D., min. of Mains Street Church, Glasgow, and Professor of Divinity to the Original Secession Synod, born 31st Aug. 1804, died 2nd May 1876 ; George, accountant, Edinburgh, born 1st Aug. 1808; John, min. of Moonzie, born 1st Sept. 1810."
