Son of John Sant and Mary Shaw, born December 15, 1833, Middlewich, England. Came to Utah September 3, 1855, John Hindley company.

Married: Margaret Mustard October 3, 1858 (daughter of David Mustard and Margaret Kay, pioneers September 3, 1852, Abraham O. Smoot company). She was born March 9, 1842.

Mary Ellen born September 10, 1859, married Preston Thomas December 31, 1876;

George born January 31, 1862, married Sarah .1. Clifford November 9, 1884;

William R. born February 9, 1864, married Rosa A. Clifford November 2, 1897;

Margaret Kay born July 3, 1866, married William Smith October 25, 1883;

James born August 31, 1868, died March 21, 1870;

Lizzie born March 3, 1870, died September 15, 1887;

Eliza born June 19, 1874, married Charles Johnson August 24, 1892;

Mary born October 29, 1877, married Alma Johnson January 17, 1899;

David born October 2, 1882, married Elizabeth Cole January 18, 1905;

Edmund born September 22, 1884, died August 4, 1887.

Family resided in Smithfield, Utah, and Treasureton, Idaho.

George Sant travelled from Liverpool to New Orleans on the Ship Clara Wheeler on a voyage that began the 27th of November 1854 and arrived on 12 Jan 1855. He is listed on the passenger list as being a 21 year old male with the occupation of “waterman.”


In the Spring of 1859 he moved to Hamilton's Fort where he made adobe bricks. He could make 5,000 bricks a week.
