George Schmitz was Catholic.2 He was born on 13 September 1857.3 He was born on 12 October 1857.4,5 He was the son of Peter Schmitz and Magdalena Haupert.1 He was christened on 16 December 1857 at Wright County, Minnesota. Georgius Schmitz. Anno Dni 1857 die 16 Decembris menies ego P. Demetrius O.S.B. baptizaer infantem natum die 13 Septembris 1857 ex Petri Schmitz et Magdelenae n. Haupert conjugibus, cui impios itum est nomen Georgius. Patrini fuere Georgius Schillo, cujus vices gessit Joannes Beck.3 He was confirmed on 29 September 1871 at St. Michael, Wright County, Minnesota.6 On 21 February 1882 George Schmitz married Elisabeth Hübner, daughter of Ferdinand Hübner and Maria Kranz, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Wayzata, Hennepin County, Minnesota. It was a Catholic marriage. The Latin church record translates to: "A.D. 1882 on the 21st of February, were joined in matrimony Georgius Schmitz, born 12 October 1857 A.D., son of Petri Schmitz & Magdalena born Haupert formerly of the Diocese of Trevirenoi, Prussia, and Elisabetha Hübner born 17 July A.D. 1863 Pomeriana, daughter of Ferdinandi Hübner & Margaretha born Krenz formerly of the district of Posenia, Prussia. Witnesses Anna Schmitz & Theodore Hübner.

"They were verbally interrogated in person about their mutual consent, 3 previous banns were announced, there were no impediments, the civil license was obtained and the marriage was celebrated at St. S___ (illegible) according to the laws and rubrics of the church. [Signed and married by] P. Magnus M. Mayr, O.S.B., pastor."1,4,5,7,8,9 Before 1900 George Schmitz married Theresia Bartoll. Circa 1900 George Schmitz and Theresia Bartoll moved to Butte, Silver Bow County, Montana.10 He died on 30 November 1940 at Ft. Steilacoom, Washington, at age 83.4
