He had nine children:

Sarah, who married first Joseph Ratliff and second David, son of Obadiah Harris

Mary who married Thomas Harris. John, Sarah and Mary died in grant County.

Tamar, who married Simeon Cox, and died in Randolph county.

George who resided near Newport.

Zachariah, who married Susanna, daughter of Obadiah Harris, II, and lived in Tama County, Iowa.

Isaiah, who married Elizabeth, daughter of Jesse Hough; both died near Newport.

Catharine, who married first Daniel, son of Jesse Hough, and second Daniel Charles, in Green.

Gulielma, who married Nathan Coggeshall and removed to Grant County.

George Shugart, the son of George Shugart, the subject of the foregoing sketch, was born in July, 1804, and came, when a boy, with his father to this township. He was married to Ruth, daughter of Jonathan Marine, and resides about three fourths of a mile north, east of Newport. He has ever been an esteemed member of the Society of Friends. He has had eleven children, namely, Luzena, who died in her 7th year, Riley, Irena, Jonathan, Jane, Angelina, Charles, Thomas C., William, Hannah, and Ruth Ann.
