About George Rye Smith, SV/PROG
There were many Smiths among the 1820 settlers. Two of the parties were headed by persons of this patronymic - Mr George Smith's party from Manchester. He had been an officer in the 95th Rifle Brigade and his location was along the coast between the Lynedoch and Kowie Rivers
George and Eleanor Smith had three children, a son and two daughters. George died in August 1826, a month before his youngest daughter was born. The other two children were still very young, respectively aged four years and one year.
