George W Thomas was killed December 4, 1862 near Visksburg, Mississippi, fighting for the Union in the Civil Wr. I (Elton Kenneth Thomas) found evidence that some of the descendants of the members of the Thomas family who remained in Maryland when Asa left to go west to Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinios, also fought in the Civil War, but for the Confederacy. Let us hope they did not meet Asa Barclay and George W. in combat.
