Comparing George's marriage and death certificates and his mother's death certificate implies that George was born between 3 April 1836 and 9 October 1836.
In 1860 George Turnbull's occupation was given as Mason. At the time of the 1871 census (i.e. 2 April), George, Ann and four of their children lived in the village of Denholm, parish of Cavers, Roxburghshire. The children were George, son, 7, scholar; Walter, son, 5, scholar; Robert, son, 3; and James, son, 3 months.
In 2006 Maureen Dickson recorded that the family home had at one time been 22 Ettrick Road, Selkirk.
