Gerald (55) from Witfontein farm, Kokstad, was stabbed 15 times and died from his injuries, on 26th June 2004. At least two perpetrators broke a window and forced the burglar guards open to get into the house.

"Port Shepstone police spokesperson Captain Vincent Pandarum said that on the Saturday Eacher was killed while his wife and four children had gone shopping, leaving him alone in the farmhouse."

After killing Gerald they stole R50 and small household items.

  • 20/07/2004: Two men who were allegedly involved in Gerald's murder were refused bail in the Kokstad magistrate's court last week after the investigating officer testified that both men had been positively linked to the scene. "Accused Zitowbile Magashalala of Cedarville and Patrick Mabhande of Brooksnek will remain in police custody until a high court trial date is set. Magashalala admitted to killing Eacher while Mabhande said that it was a "revenge attack" because he had been convicted of robbing the Eacher home about three years ago."
