Gerald Leander Van Heel, of Minneapolis, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at his beloved lake home. He was a loving father, husband and friend to many.

Survived by wife of 45 years, Pamela; son Benjamin; daughter Heidi and son-in-law, Brian Carpenter; brothers Leon and Russell Van Heel; sister Marlene Dapper; mother-in-law, Marcella Fredell. Viet Nam (Air Force) veteran and 26 year member (retired) of the Burnsville Police Department.

Memorial Service 10AM, Thursday, June 27th at the Historic Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel (located at the intersection of Highways 5, 55 and 62. Follow signs to Historic Fort Snelling). Visitation Wednesday, 4-8PM at Gill Brothers Funeral Home, 5801 Lyndale Ave. S, Minneapolis and one hour prior to service at Ft. Snelling Memorial Chapel. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials preferred to the Fort Snelling Memorial Rifle Squad, Villard First Repsonders or Twin Cities Public Television.
