OBITUARY: From the Box Elder News for Thursday 6 June 1907 Gerhard Jensen
Gerhard Jensen answers the call of the grim reaper and enters into his rest. Funeral Wednesday June 6, 1907
Last Sunday, the spirit of one of Brigham City's oldest citizens, Mr. Gerhard Jensen, of the Second Ward interred into the great beyond, "Whence no traveler ever returns". 86 years of age and had spent a useful life. He had been an invalid for about four years past, and for ten months had been bedridden. He died as he lived, a Faithful Latter Day Saint, mourned not only by his relatives, but by a host of friends and acquaintances.
Mr. Jensen was born in Amager, Copenhagen, Denmark June 25, 1821. He joined the church in 1851 in Denmark, the year following the introduction of the gospel into that country. He left Denmark in the fall of 1852 and arrived in Utah the next fall.
He married Elsie M. Christiansen on the boat enroute. He lived in Salt Lake City some time, then in San Pete County six or seven years and in 1866 came to this city where he has resided every since.
He married Johanna Johnson in 1857. It might not be amiss to recite a little history in connection with the first marriage right here. There were three children of this union: Brigham, Hadave (Hedevig) and Gehardina. The girls were twins.
Brigham is the father of 16 children, 8 boys and 8 girls; Hedvig (Bott) is the mother of 17 children, 10 boys and 7 girls; and Gehardinaa (Forsgren) is the mother of 17 children, 10 boys and 7 girls. All live in this city.
Mr. Jensen is the father of 19 children. He had 84 grandchildren, and 25 great grand children.
Funeral services will be held in the Ward house today. [This obituary has errors]
Gehard was christened 5 Aug. 1821 at Taarnby, Copenhagen, Denmark.
His name is spelled dozens of ways in various records. For the sake of uniformity the family decided to use the spelling "Gerhard" in family history records.
