Gerrit Jacobsz Coetzee, b1c2

On Thursday 10 September 1733 the freeburgher Gerrit Coetzee Jacobszoon (the son of Jacob) appeared before the Council of Justice in Cape Town. He was twenty one years old and he was charged with sodomy with a horse. He was already a prisoner in the Castle, having been arrested and brought to Cape Town from his home in Daljosafat (in Drakenstein) some time in late July.

On the next court day, Thursday 17 September 1733, Gerrit Coetsé was sentenced to death by drowning. He was executed on 23 September 1733.

I think it must have been this Gerrit, baptized as a child of Lijsbeth Louisz and Hans Jurgen in 1712, but in fact the first of Lijsbeth and Jacobus Coetzee's illegitimate children. Since Gerrit was 21 years old in 1733, he must have been born in 1712, which coincides with Gerrit's date of baptism. - JS
