Gert van Wyk (1973 – 2013)

Brief overview:

Gert (40), the farm owner, and his foreman, Edward Fouche (30), were attacked at the farm shop on the 28th January 2013, by four armed men who pretended to want to buy maize. Gert and Edward were both told to lay on the ground. One of the perpetrators shot Edward killing him instantly. He then pointed the gun at Gert who curled up into a foetal position. The gunman shot Gert in the back, and the bullet went through his intestine and exited. He was taken to hospital in critical condition, and died on 1st April from his injuries.

Captain Julia Claasen said the gang of men then went to Gert's home office where they assaulted and robbed his wife, Retha, of R10,000 in cash. They fled the scene in a blue Nissan pickup truck. There is no record of anyone being arrested in connection with this incident.
