About Gertrude Shappee
Gertrude was known as Gertie or Trudy; she was named after her grandmother Gertrude Stoddard Shappee. She was born in Casco and attended South Haven High School. While in high school she worked at a Jewish bakery in South Haven. Trudy attended Kalamazoo College. Later she lived in Chicago and worked for many years for Sears as a sales person. She enjoyed travel and made several trips to Europe. After retiring she bought the home in Casco that had belonged to Jonathan Shappee and lived there until her death.
