Gertrude R. Weeks was born March 29, 1849 at Adrian, Mich. the daughter of Addison and Charlotte Grow. At the age of 5, she, with her parents moved to the town of Buterial, living there but a short time, they came to Greenville, Mich., which was then just a small town. Then they came to Alton and later moved to South Boston where her father passed to his reward.
At the age of 16 she went to live with an older sister at Fairfield and remained there until her marriage Oct. 31, 1869 to Horace D. Weeks. To this union ten children were born, her husband preceded her by 15 years.
Mrs. Weeks passed away Jan. 8, 1936 at her old home at Murray Lake where she lived for over 67 years. She had reached the age of 87 years and 10 months. Surviviing are nine children, 35 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. W. H. Smith of Alma, besides other relatives and a host of friends.
Mrs. Weeks' greatest enjoyments were her Bible, home, children and friends, always mention any trial with a smile, helping and giving her all if necessary to comfort others. She has truly earned this beautiful passage of scripture from God's word: "She hath done what she could."
