Gertrude Wiersma

Mrs. Gertrude Wiersma, age 93, of Orange City, passed away Monday, June 26, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 29, at Calvary Christian Reformed Church, with the Revs. Willis Vander Kooi and Richard Venema officiating. Interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City, under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City.

Gertrude was born August 26, 1895, at Orange City, the daughter of Gerrit Reinders and Geradina Hofmeyer Reinders. She was raised at Orange City. On January 4, she married Joe Wiersma at Orange City. They farmed in the Sanborn and Hull areas until 1947, when they retired to Orange City. Mr. Wiersma passed away July 1, 1950, at Orange City.

Mrs. Wiersma,was a former resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home and since 1982, has lived at the Heritage House Nursing Home, both in Orange City.

She was a member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City, where she had been active in the ladies organization. She also belonged to the Monica Society.

Survivors include two sons, John, of Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin; and Stanley, of New Brighton, Minnesota; two daughters, Geraldine Begg, of Ankeny; and Joyce Koops, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; seventeen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and sister, Geraldine Reinders, of Orange City.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Gary and Rodney; a greatgranddaughter; three brothers, Gary, John G., and Albert Reinders; four step-sisters, Minnie Muyskens, Etta Kooyman, Angeline De Blauw, and Elizabeth De Jong; and two step-brothers, John B. and Gerrit Mouw.
