Giles Webb[1] was born in England possibly about 1600. His parents are at this time unconfirmed. He passed away after 1667 in Nansemond County, Virginia Colony. He is last found in records in reference to a land grant dated 16 February 1667.

Marriages & Children

Giles Webb appears to have married in England before his transport to Virginia. The name of his wife is unknown, but is suggested as Elizabeth Unknown. The birthplaces of their children are undocumented, possibly one or more in England.

Webb arrived in Virginia Colony unaccompanied by a wife so it is possible she died in England. The late marriage dates of the three younger sons of Giles indicates he may have married a second time in Virginia. He is believed to have had four sons:

  1. James Webb, b, perhaps in Gloucestershire, England, where he married and had at least two children. Records indicate he died at Chuckatuck before 17 February 1675.
  2. John Webb, b c 1645, md 1672, Mary Sanford, Nansemond County, Virginia
  3. Isaac Webb, b v 1650, md 1678, Mary Bidwell [?], Nansemond County, Virginia
  4. Giles Webb, son of Giles of Chuckatuck, b c 1655, was married to Margaret ____, who was Executrix of his will - 3 August 1692 in Richmond County.[9] [10]

63. Giles WEBB Sr (William Micajah , Alexander , Alexander , Henry Alexander , John Alexander , John Alexander , William , John , Geofrey , Henry ) was born in 1620 in Gloucestershire, England. He died in 1692 in Richmond County, Virginia.

On the 20th of March 1660, the Assembly of James City, Virginia assumed full power of the government and appointed officers. Among the Burgesses for the Upper Norfolk was Giles Webb.


John Webb was a patentee of land in 1624. Stephen Webb was a Burgess from James City county in October, 1644 Giles Webb was commander of a body of rangers in Henrico county in October, 1692. Calendar of State Papers of Virginia, I, 43. George Webb was elected, December 17, 1776, by the Virgima Assembly, Treasurer of Virginia, to succeed Robert Carter Nicholas, resigned. He came to America in 1629 on board the ship "Thomas Babe" which landed in upper Norfolk County. --Giles established his residence at Chuckatuck, Virginia, on the boundary of Isle of Wight and Nansemond Counties. --Giles was a Burgess of Nansemond County 1658-1660. --On December 15, 1659, Giles Webb, "of Chuckatuck", appointed Mr. William Johnson, of Piscataway, Essex County, as his attorney in Rappahannock County. --On the 20th of March 1660, the Assembly of James City, Virginia assumed full power of the government and appointed officers. Among the Burgesses for the Upper Norfolk was Giles Webb. --In 1667 he patented 681 acres on the north side of Rappahannock River, which had been assigned to him in 1653 by Toby Smith.


Giles was likely born in Gloucestershire, England in the early 1600's. He came to this country in 1629 on board the ship "Thomas Babe" which landed in upper Norfolk County. Giles established his residence at Chuckatuck, Virginia, on the boundary of Isle of Wight and Nansemond Counties. Giles was a Burgess of Nansemond County 1658-1660. The Family History of the descendants of this Giles webb is taken Chiefly from the book "Linkage", authored by Jo Smith Webb, wife of Julian Webb, of Donalsonville, Georgia, first published in 1984. ”Giles married Judith Bland RANDOLPH in 1643 in Henrico County, Virginia. Judith was born in 1623 in Virginia. She died in 1673 in Richmond, Richmond County, Virginia. Judith Bland married into the Randolph family of Virginia and after her husband's death she married Giles Webb.”

There is no evidence this Giles Webb was son of Richard Webb and Jane Unknown. (Strutton-11 16:51, 21 September 2022 (UTC))

This Giles Webb was not the father of Giles Webb, of Henrico County, who died in 1713, and of Thomas Webb, of the city of Gloucestershire, England, gentleman, who was alive in 1718. He may have been grandfather, unconfirmed.[11] Giles Webb of Henrico County who died in 1713 married Sarah Swann, widow of Henry Randolph. He died without issue and left his estate to his wife and brother Thomas in England.[10] [12] (Strutton-11 16:35, 17 September 2022 (UTC))
