About Giorgagis Bartella
Giorgagis was found dead under the bridge on the main road between the villages of Asomatos and Kondemenos in may 1940. He was noticed by Antonis (katchadjiaoui) who was sitting next to Peppis Bartella ( the eldest son of Giorgakis) who was driving his lorry carrying building sand and aggregates to Nicosia. Giorgagis had friends in Kondemenos and he often used to go and drink with them. As there were rhoumours that his death was due to a criminal action his son Elias Bartella insisted that an autopsy be carried out. This was done in the hallway of his house in Asomatos and it was clarified that his death was due to natural causes. His coffin was constructed by the village carpenter Avraamis Costa and his corpse was prepared 'lazaroma' by Antonia Costa of Asomatos.
