About Giovanni Antonio Bausano
June 18th - John A. Bausano was killed in the 35th level, south of No. 6 shaft, Hecla Mine.
While he was filling the tram-car a piece of rock fell from the hanging wall, striking him on the head, and in falling he struck the base of his skull upon a sharp rock, which was probably the cause of his death. He was at once taken to the surface and as soon as possible removed to the mine hospital. He died just as he was being taken into the hospital.
An inquest was held before Justice Sowden.
The jury returning the following verdict: "We find that John A. Bausano came to his death in the 35th level, south of No. 8 shaft, Hecla Branch of the Calumet & Hecla Mine, on the 18th day of June, while in the discharge of his duty, by the accidental falling of a rock, striking him on the head. We consider it purely accidental."
