Gladys Esther Plagge

New Ulm - Gladys Plagge, 87, of New Ulm, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 2, at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Donald Sutton officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Thursday and 7:30 until 8:30 a.m. on Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Friday.

Gladys is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Jack Kenow of Faribault, Sheilah and James Sharon of Austin, Texas, Bonnie Kramer of New Ulm, Debbie and Don Johnson of Delavan, Wisconsin; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Sharon Plagge of New Ulm; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Kersch and Alvina Grams both of New Ulm; a brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Lorraine Cordes of New Ulm; sisters-in-law, Mildred Cordes and Irene Domeier both of New Ulm; and by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Steve Kramer; sisters, Erma, Frieda, and Hilda; and by brothers, Erwin, Albert, Adolph, Louis, George, Henry, Herbert, Walter, and Eldor.

Gladys Esther Cordes, the daughter of Herman and Alvina (Kaping) Cordes was born on May 5, 1921 in New Ulm. She attended the St. Paul's Lutheran grade school. On December 3, 1946, Gladys was united in marriage to Elmer A. Plagge at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in New Ulm. After marriage they lived in New Ulm. She worked at B. F. Goodrich in New Ulm and Pietrus Foods in Sleepy Eye. Gladys lived at the Broadway Haus for many years before moving to Oak Hills in 1996. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, playing Yahtzee, and spending time with her grandchildren.
