Danville (IA) -- Funeral for Glen P. DeSpain, 59, Danville, who died Wednesday, January 23, will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Danville United Methodist, Reverend Melvin Reth and Reverend Ian Armstrong; Jaggar cemetery.
The son of Perry and Clara Miller DeSpain, he was born August 24, 1919, at Pleasant Grove. He married Joan McClure November 21, 1948, at Nashua.
As a member of an Army Air Corps bomber crew in World War II, he was shot down over Rumania and was a prisoner of war of the Germans. For 22 years, he operated DeSpain Locker Company.
In recent years he had been employed at the General Electric plant. He was stricken after teaching a butchering class at Southeastern Community college, West Burlington.
Surviving: The wife; son, Michael D., Danville; two daughters, Cynthia DeSpain, Danville, and Debra Phillips, Burlington; one grandchild; two brothers, Willis, Mediapolis, and Ralph, New London.
The body is at Elliott Chapel in New London, where a memorial to the Danville United Methodist church has been established.
