Glen Preston Gibson

Glen Preston Gibson was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. His parentsJohn Preston Gibson and Edith Alice lived in Los Angeles, California but due to his mother's illness they traveled to Vancouver to be with Edith's sister. Glen was born on the 16th of January 1922. His mother Edith was left paralized from the waist down after his birth. They moved back to Los Angeles and Glen continued to due well in school. He also was a boy scout and continued learning and attained "Eagle Scout". When Glen attended George Washington High he was very social and was in the drama club, speech club, . . .

After Glen graduated he decided to attend Medical School at St. Boniface School and Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It was when he was away at school when he met his wife, Margaret.

Glen married on July 11, 1949 in Winnepeg, Manitoba to Margaret Thorsteinson, daughter of Gudmundur and Kristina Thorsteinson of Lundar, Manitoba.

After graduating fron St. Boniface, the couple moved in 1949 to Temiskaming, Quebec where Glen was in General Practice. It was at this time in their lives that they adopted two children, Kathleen Margaret and Michael David Gibson.

Glen decided that he wanted to further his career so the family moved and he took post graduate psyciatry training at the University of Toronto from 1956 to 1960. It was after he graduated in 1960 that the couple moved back to North Bay and he became the Director of the Mental Health Unit there. Later on in 1960 the family moved to Sarnia, where Glen became the Head of Psychiatry at Sarnia General Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital. It was quite a surprise then in 1963 when the couple found out that a third child was due in 1963m Caroline Gibson was born then on the 16th of April.

Glen continued his work and enjoyed his family very much..... he enjoyed taking long drives in the country with his daughter Kathy. The family took many trips to Ireland, California, Prince Edward Island, Vancouver, BC, and all around Ontario visiting relatives and friends.

Glen died abruptly on 26th day of August 1976 at the age of 54.
