WOOSTER -- Gloria Arlene Stocksdale, 82, of Wooster, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at Wooster Community Hospital after a long illness. Services will be Friday, Sept. 7, at 11 a.m. at McIntire Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster. Interment will be at Wooster Cemetery. The family will receive friends today, Sept. 6, from 1-3 and 6-9 or one hour prior to the services on Friday. Those who wish may make contributions to Oak Chapel United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, Wayne County 4-H Endowment Fund or Hospice & Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County. Gloria was born March 27, 1925, to the late Frederick and Helen (Landes) West in Creston and married Melvin Ray Stocksdale on June 9, 1946. He died in May of 1979. She attended Wooster Business College, worked at the White Hut and then later worked at Rubbermaid, Inc. for 34 years in the office and factory. She was an active member of Oak Chapel United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women's group. In 2007, she celebrated her 67th year of membership in Valley College Grange, where she received the national seventh degree. She enjoyed being a member of Searchlight Club, Wayne County Porkettes and Westwood Garden Club. She was a Wayne County 4-H adviser for 25 years and had managed the Mel Stocksdale Orchestra since her husband's death in 1979. Her favorite pastimes were being involved with her grandchildren, crocheting, watching sports on television and making prize winning divinity and fudge. Surviving are children, Barb (Tom) Brahm of Vanlue, Tom (Connie) Stocksdale of Wooster and Judy Villard of Mansfield; grandchildren, Nick (Jill), Hannah and Maggie Stocksdale, Jennifer and Kimmy Villard, Matt and Mark Brahm; great-grandchildren, Madicyn and Reis Stocksdale; and sisters, Eleanor (Dean) Berkey of Orrville and Georgia (Addie) Widmer of Sterling. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sisters, Evelyn Gresser and Shirley Leathers.
