Pravim imenom Gneius Baebius cnei filius Tamphilus Vala Nvmonianvs bio je italski monetarni službenik kojeg je posvojio Gnej Bebije Tamfil. Nakon uspona po rimskim službama između 27. i 25. imenovan je prokonzulom Ilirika. Za njegovo doba izgrađen je antički Jader te je on patron grada i «graditelj» foruma. Ime mu je 1984. pronađeno na jednom zdencu u Zadru, a prije toga spominjao se na jednom natpisu u Rimu pronađenom 1862. godine. U Zadru je pronađen i jedan kip iz tog razdoblja za koji se smatra da prikazuje upravo Valu.

Translation: By the real name, Gneius Baebius cnei filius Tamphilus Vala Nvmonianvs was an Italic monetary official adopted by Gnaeus Baebius Tamphilus. After rising through Roman services between 27 and 25, he was appointed proconsul of Illyricum. During his time, the ancient Jader was built and he is the patron saint of the city and the "builder" of the forum. His name was found in 1984 on a well in Zadar, and before that it was mentioned on an inscription in Rome found in 1862. A statue from that period was found in Zadar, which is believed to depict Vala.
