Emigration From England Early 1600's

In his book written in 1860, "Social Relations in Our Southern States", Col Daniel Robinson Hundley (1832-1899) describes himself as a descendant of English Cavaliers and Huguenots.

Some Hundley family trees say that Phillip Hundley Sr. (b 1631) was the son of Godfrey Hundley (1611-??) who sailed on the Primrose at age 24 from Gravesend (Kent) England on July 27, 1635 traveling from London to Virginia (Hotten's List of Persons of Quality, p 114; The Complete Book of Emigrants 1607-1776, July 27, 1635).

Some Hundley researchers believe Godfrey Hundley was also known as Philip Hundley.

Godfrey Hundley reportedly was the son of Ernest C. G. Hundley (b England d St. Helens, Lancashire, England).

Chatham says the earliest Hundley ancestor was _______ Hundley [3144] about whom she provides no information ("Tidewater Families in the New World and their Westward Migration", p 989). Chatham lists two early settlers in early Virginia: Phillip Hundley [3146] (1631-??) and Henry Hundley [3145] born before 1725 in England who was transported to Virginia by Stephen Gill in 1642 ("Tidewater Families of the New World and Their Westward Migration", p 989).

Henry Hundley is listed in George Cabell Greer's 1912 book, "Complete List of Early Virginia Immigrants, 1623-1666", as arriving in 1642 and sponsored by Stephen Gill (http://www.evmedia.com/virginia/). Greer's book lists Margaret Brookes, Theodore Dyer, Henry Edwards, Daniell Forrest, Thomas Guige, Mary Hall, John Huningford, Thomas Jones, John Owen, Ann Perry, James Rowland, and William Wells as having been sponsored by Phillip Hunley is 1651. Reportedly, Phillip Hunley collected "head rights" in land for the immigrants he sponsored. Because many early Gloucester County, VA records were destroyed, it is difficult to document the Hundley lineage much beyond ten generations.
